How long should I train for and how often?

30 minute and 60 minute personal training sessions are offered. To determine what duration and frequency will best work for you, we will need to talk to you, as there are many variables. This can be discussed at either the initial fitness assessment or during a free consultation.

Getting Started

All you need to do to get started is phone us to make an appointment for an initial fitness assessement. The assessment takes approximately 55 minutes.

* We offer a free consultation for people who are unsure about what direction they should take with their personal training.

Inital Fitness Assessment

The initial fitness assessment will be conducted prior to commencement of training sessions, to record a baseline measurement of your fitness. This will help to determine what your current fitness level is, and to identify a direction for your training sessions. We will address short term and long term goals at this time.

The fitness assessment consists of a range of fitness tests such as completing a health profile, blood pressure, weight, body fat %, girths, flexibility test, core stability test, abdominal strength test, muscular endurance test, and a sub-maximal aerobic test (to determine your cardiovascular fitness level).

We will later re-assess your fitness level to compare the results and gauge your progress. Goals will be reassessed at this time.

Nutritional Advice

Your trainer will talk to you about your current diet and recommend positive changes you should make, so that you can achieve maximal results from your personal training sessions.

One-on-one personal training

Just you and your trainer, this form of personal training is the most popular. You will have the total attention of your personal trainer for the duration of the session, and have each session designed specifically for you.

Train with a partner

You can train with a partner and reap the benefits of personal training at a reduced cost.

Group Personal Training

This form of training is popular amongst families, corporate groups, and friends. Per person this is the cheapest option for training.

Minister for Health and Ageing

The Commonwealth Government has decided to include the services of university trained exercise physiologists under Medicare’s allied health measure. From 1 January 2006, exercise physiologists will be among the allied health professionals able to provide Medicare services to people with chronic and complex illnesses.

Including exercise physiology services under the Medicare allied health initiative means patients will have greater access to professional services for physical rehabilitation and disease prevention. Exercise physiologists provide exercise therapy to prevent and manage chronic disease.

Exercise physiologists can improve the health of people with chronic and complex medical conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and arthritis. They can also help patients with dementia, osteoporosis and depression, as well as people who have had a stroke.

To be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for these services, patients will need to be referred by their GP and have their health managed through an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Eligible patients will be entitled to a total of five allied health visits a year, including exercise physiology services. Each of the five visits will attract a Medicare rebate of $44.95.

The Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS) has recently combined with the Royal Australian College of General Practice to co-ordinate an online access to AAESS Accredited Exercise Physiologists in their local area.

For further information please visit the following websites: AAESS and/or RACGP.

Our Exercise Physiologists are registered providers for Workcover Queensland. As a rehabilitation provider we perform physical conditioning services to improve the capacity of an injured worker to return to work, and/or upgrade their duties following an injury sustained in the workplace. Referred workers are initially assessed by an accredited Exercise Physiologist to determine the suitability of a physical conditioning program.

The initial physical conditioning assessment involves performing tests specific to the injury to determine the injured workers abilities and highlight physical restrictions. If deemed suitable, a provider management plan is competed with recommendations for the number of physical conditioning sessions and the duration of the program.

A report is compiled and forwarded to Workcover Queensland along with a provider management plan. A progress report is generally completed and forwarded to Workcover Queensland on completion of the program, where further recommendations are made. If it is determined that a physical conditioning plan is not suitable, recommendations are made to the referrer as to another direction of rehabilitation.

If a veteran has a DVA Gold Card then we can provide exercise physiology services, upon referral, to meet any clinical need.

If a veteran has a DVA White Card then you can provide exercise physiology services, upon referral, to meet a clinical need associated with an accepted disability or malignant cancer and DVA has accepted responsibility for treatment of this condition.

How do veterans get access to the service?

Veterans can only access exercise physiology services upon referral from an appropriate health professional, such as a General Practitioner or LMO.The referral generally remains active for 12 months.

Health provides physical conditioning services for the Military Compensation & Rehabilitation Service (MCRS). Referred clients are initially assessed by an accredited Exercise Physiologist to determine the suitability of a physical conditioning program.

If deemed suitable a ‘Request for Treatment for MCRS Client’ form is completed, outlining the problem being treated, the proposed treatment and expected functional outcomes, along with the proposed number of sessions and program duration. This is forwarded to MCRS, along with a completed ‘Patient Specific Measure’ form. If it is determined that a physical conditioning plan is not suitable, recommendations are made to the referrer as to another direction of rehabilitation.
